Tubac-Santa Cruz Visitor Center Count Tops the Charts
Great News! We beat last month's visitor count of 4,091! This month we had a total of 4,658 visitors signing in! Thanks to Karla Sosa, Mary Anne Collins-Svoboda, and Charles Catino for not letting anyone slide by without signing in.

Santa Cruz Tourism Council Sets Strategy for Economic Development
At the Santa Cruz Tourism Council Strategic Planning Session held on February 26th, the council acknowledged the importance of tourism as a leading economic development opportunity, discussed the benefits of regional marketing, and adopted an action plan. In the action plan, priority is given to obtaining regional “buy in” for the development of the Tour Santa Cruz travel planner and on-line publication, a community outreach campaign utilizing A Sense of Place methodology, a CD-Rom tour featuring the bird sculpture loop, as well as the continued regional marketing campaign, As the Birds Fly South (2004 Tourism Project), which includes advertisements and articles featured in official visitor guides. read on...

Governor Napolitano Goes “Treasure” Hunting In Arizona
In a recent effort to promote in-state tourism, Governor Janet Napolitano has begun taking weekend excursions to visit some of the state’s lesser-known areas and attractions, places some would consider “hidden treasures.” The tour, officially termed the “Treasures Tour,” is yet another post-9/11 initiative meant to boost the state’s tourism numbers. The strategic thinking behind the effort goes something like this: Wherever she goes, the governor attracts attention, so if the governor is seen out and about touring some unusual spots in the state, perhaps other Arizonians will be enticed to follow suit. read on...

Early-Bird Media Alert: The Press is Flocking to Santa Cruz County…

This July, Santa Cruz County will roll out its red carpet as it welcomes invited members of the national press to visit each of its 10 “As the Birds Fly South” sculpture locations as part of a guided tour led by the Santa Cruz Tourism Council. Though originally scheduled for spring, the council is now ready after finalizing a few critical details to launch its official Media Tour this summer—an ideal time for visitors, with its slightly cooler temperatures and a summer bird-watching season that’s at its peak. read on...
